I have a question on a passage from Jeramiah 19. It refers to the Valley of Hinnom in one of the versus and how it will now be called the Valley of Slaughter.
Where was the Valley of Hinnom located and why is it now considered the Valley of Slaughter?
The Valley of Hinnom is the valley around Jerusalem’s old city. Jeremiah was a prophet sent by God to call the people of Judah (whose capital was at Jerusalem) to repentance and warn them of the impending disaster coming from the Babylonian Empire. Thus, when the Babylonians come this valley will be a "valley of slaughter." This is fulfilled in 586 BC when, after a two year seige, the Babylonian armies capture Jerusalem and take the people of Judah back into captivity in Babylon. They will be exiled there until King Cyrus of Persia conquers the Babylonians in 539 BC and allows the Jews to return home.
